Database Administrator
Includes all levels of skills from supporting the TeamPlay® application with data input to very sophisticated DBA support of databases like Oracle.
The duties may include any of the following: Review, develop, and design data models using standard diagramming techniques, in conjunction with application development teams; create logical data models and translate into physical database structures that integrate with existing or proposed database structures. Monitor relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; address a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications. Maintain development, test and production RDBMS environments. Monitor and maintain database security and database software, in cooperation with ISSMs. Provide advice to applications programmers in the effective use of database languages; advise on troubleshooting, exception processing needs and other data management issues. Maintain availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitate sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance. May evaluate and recommend testing and evaluation of new procedures, software, and hardware. Monitor and manage database backups, logs, and journals; install, maintain, and upgrade database software; restore and/or recover data as required. Create, procure and maintain various database related documents such as manuals and programmers' handbooks.
May provide 24-hour on-call support.
Responsible for coordinating with various project teams to provide input during project design and development to ensure project produces quality products.
Works with Senior Technologists to provide technical guidance to both Project Managers and other applications developers during the development process.
Level 3 duties may include some data entry, as well as data analysis and the ability to run complex queries in databases. The DBA may maintain the GUIs, thus SQL and Oracle may be useful.
Summary of position: Will participate as the DBA in a new project, small team environment, supporting the design, development and deployment of a corporate analysis system in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The DBA will also provide guidance and support to team members in the development of comprehensive and complex solution system. Work closely with the Program Manager, leverage existing IT infrastructure to balance short-term versus long-term actions, strategic versus tactical requirements. Responsible to design, architect, and implement enhancements related to a PostGres SQL database system. Provide leadership in all activities including business analysis, access analysis, design, database and load optimization, and system implementation. Develop the detailed project plans for data modeling, design, development and implementation. Work closely with end user and IT support teams to understand requirements and provide solution architecture design and technical specifications. Ensure high quality and performance in the data architecture and data management, resulting in delivering robust solutions to end users.
This position will be required to carry a pager. This position may require overtime at times.

Expert experience with PostGres SQL (or willingness to obtain necessary training) or other RDBMS with strong experience on backend processes and engineering. Experience in Linux or UNIX. Experience in RDBMS performance tuning (index, disk optimization, etc). Experience in implementation and release of DB changes. Experience in RDBMS capacity planning.
